Ray Parker Jr. – The Other Woman
Ray Parker Jr.'s 1982 solo debut.
While Ray Parker Jr. is strongly associated with "Ghostbusters," this album predates that hit.
The title track, "The Other Woman," is a funk/rock tune with a striking distorted guitar sound that intentionally deviated from the R&B style of the time.
What's interesting is that Ray played most of the instruments on the track himself.
He recorded the guitar, bass, and drums on his own, and there is even a story that he played the bass line—with Sly & The Family Stone in mind—while Larry Graham was actually in the studio.
As a result, "The Other Woman" became a major hit for Ray.
This record is not just a source for flashy samples; it captures an era when 80s Black Music was freely expanding into R&B, Funk, and Rock.
