Released in 1963. This is Bob James's debut album as a leader, featuring a piano trio. This is the US edition released by Mercury.

Bob James, who was 22 at the time, recorded this with Ron Brooks (bass) and Bob Pozar (drums). It was produced following his performance at the 1962 Collegiate Jazz Festival, with Quincy Jones serving as producer.

This album is packed with the experimental spirit of the young Bob James, differing from his later fusion and crossover works. While performing standards, he also incorporates oil drums and wooden percussion on "Trilogy," boldly expanding the boundaries of the piano trio.

In addition to standards such as "Nardis" and "Fly Me to the Moon," the original composition "Quest" is also a highlight. You can feel the musical curiosity that led to the Bob James of later years.

This is the origin of his jazz pianist roots, different from the later works known as Hip Hop sampling sources. It is also interesting in that it is a Quincy Jones-produced work, making it a valuable record of early Bob James.
