Billy Cobham – Crosswinds

Billy Cobham's second solo album, released on Atlantic in 1974.

A key work of 70s jazz fusion featuring George Duke, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, John Abercrombie, and others.

And for Hip Hop fans, the B-side track "Crosswind" is essential.

Known for being sampled in Gang Starr's "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow," it also contains the sample source "Heather," used in Souls of Mischief's "93 ’Til Infinity."
This is a compelling record whether you listen to it for jazz fusion or through the ears of a Hip Hop fan.

Billy Cobham's drumming is incredibly powerful.
While technical, it is filled with "usable grooves" that would go on to connect with the later sampling culture.
