Release Profile

A beat tape by sen whoo, a DJ/producer originally from Kagoshima and now based in Tokyo, who has released numerous bootlegs and participated in many projects, is being released via "Floatin of Soiree." The jacket and artwork are handled by his local comrade, BLUE STAMP.

This work contains 12 tracks in total, featuring beats constructed primarily by sampling 60s and 70s Philly soul.

While incorporating lavish strings and soft, sweet melodies, the samples—recorded at high speed then pitch-shifted down, and imbued with distortion and fluctuations via tape compression—evoke a sense of urban nostalgia.

With the city’s bustle flowing to its own rhythm, the degraded, gritty sound and off-kilter drums feel distinctly human.
